Prologue
It was the morning of the 26th of July, 2008. I just finished my final croissant with the final drops of that glass of orange juice. Like a pilot with his usual external routine (around his aircraft), I made my way towards the computer. Today was a special day: it was the final day of the first ever RPF Leadership poll. I selected http://rpfrulers.wordpress.com from my favorites to view the post containing the embedded Polldaddy poll. The results appearing in front of my screen were more than pleasing – more than unexpected. Many critics, “experts”, RPF members, and even I during my “illegitimate” suspension hours before the opening of the poll, were expecting a landslide victory for John Borne. But the results were rather pointing that description at me, than the one mentioned just now. I lead by 10% – or more than 65 votes. The polls were already open for 50 hours, and so, without any hesitation, it was confirmed that closing the polls at this time would be far more than acceptably “rational”.
As I was congratulated by my supporters, many were still following John Borne’s leadership of “his final days”. I questioned their faith in the liability of the poll. But, considering my lead was over 50 votes, I soon replaced that thought with that of them not “wanting to believe the outcome”. Meanwhile, I left our residence in Baden-Württemberg for a short trip to southern Switzerland, the canton of Tessino to be exact, over the weekend. The timing was close to perfect – if the polls would have been earlier, so that I would have found out the final results of it, I could have spent my time at the resort with one fewer thought on my mind. But the amenities of the building kept me focused on other events. Overall, the short trip was fine. My brother and I occupied ourselves with swimming, consuming the fine foods, kicking a soccer ball with other children, and that odd fight here or there, that never became something major to me – my brother might think otherwise.
Upon arriving back home on Sunday, I read Gregorey’s post, informing us of John Borne’s rather vulgar departure from RPF. With an edit, both Commando717 and Kyle Cease, the founders of the Federation, confirmed me in office and approved the poll over John Borne’s “one-vote-rules-all” voting system. I held my state of the union the day after, outlining my objectives for my term to follow. Later on another poll, this time to vote for the next Airforce Branch Leader, and a post outlining changes in ranks came out. The rails were set for a successful term as RPF Leader and USRPF President, with Dragonninja0 and Gregorey as my first pair of RPF Second-In-Commands and USRPF Vice-Presidents.
